About the Role
We are working with a well-funded aerospace company seeking a Ground Software Engineer to develop and maintain the software infrastructure supporting its satellite operations.
This is a hands-on engineering opportunity within a growing team, where you'll build the systems responsible for communication between spacecraft and mission control. The role combines software development, cloud infrastructure and networking, with significant ownership over the tools and services that enable reliable spacecraft operations.
Key Responsibilities
-
Design, develop and maintain ground software systems supporting satellite operations, telemetry processing and spacecraft commanding.
-
Build reliable, scalable services and applications that support mission control and operational automation.
-
Troubleshoot complex issues across software, networking, ground stations and mission infrastructure.
-
Deploy, maintain and improve cloud-based software infrastructure using AWS, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
-
Integrate and validate ground station services, ensuring reliable communication between spacecraft, ground infrastructure and cloud systems.
-
Collaborate with software, mission operations and engineering teams to improve system reliability, performance and automation.
Required Qualifications
-
4+ years of experience developing software systems, services, APIs or applications, ideally within technically complex environments.
-
Strong understanding of networking protocols, routing, VPNs and secure connectivity.
-
Experience with cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines and modern software development practices.
-
Experience developing services that process real-time data and interact with relational or time-series databases.
-
Familiarity with Linux environments and programming languages such as Python or C++.
-
Strong problem-solving skills and experience troubleshooting across complex software systems.
-
Experience with satellite ground systems, RF infrastructure or mission-critical operations is advantageous.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
Unlike traditional software engineering roles, this position offers the opportunity to build systems that directly influence how spacecraft are operated in orbit.
You'll have ownership across the software lifecycle, from initial development through deployment and live operations, while helping shape the infrastructure needed to support an expanding satellite fleet.
If you're a software engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges and wants to see your work have a direct impact on real-world spacecraft operations, we'd be interested in hearing about what you've built.
