I’m working exclusively with an ambitious, well-backed aerospace and defense startup in Los Angeles as they search for a Build Engineer to help turn complex engineering designs into real, operational hardware.
The company is tackling genuinely difficult engineering problems and moving quickly from concept to reality. As they scale, they're looking for someone who thrives close to the hardware.
You'll enjoy solving problems, improving processes and ensuring ambitious designs actually get built.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity for a builder in the most literal sense.
My client is looking for someone who understands that designing great hardware is only half the challenge. You'll sit at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing and integration, taking ownership of how complex systems move from CAD and drawings into physical hardware.
You'll work closely with design engineers and technicians to develop build processes, resolve issues on the floor and drive hardware through assembly, integration and test.
This is a highly hands-on role. You'll be expected to get close to the hardware, identify problems quickly and find pragmatic solutions that keep the programme moving.
What They're Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring:

Experience building, integrating or manufacturing complex mechanical or electromechanical hardware.

A strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, assembly processes and manufacturing methods.

Experience developing build procedures, work instructions and assembly processes.

The ability to troubleshoot hardware issues and drive practical solutions across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Experience working in fast-paced environments where designs are evolving and iteration is constant.

A practical, hands-on approach; comfortable spending significant time on the shop floor, in the lab or around the hardware.
Experience within aerospace, defense, space, automotive, robotics or other high-performance hardware environments would be highly relevant.
The Person
Someone who doesn't simply identify problems, but takes ownership of solving them. Someone who can operate comfortably in the gap between what was designed and what actually happens when you try to build it.
