Staff Hardware Engineer
Austin, TX | $100K–$151K base + bonus, equity & benefits
A fast-growing energy technology company is seeking a Staff Hardware Engineer to help develop next-generation utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for large commercial and data-center applications.
You’ll own sensor and safety-related hardware development across complex systems involving power electronics, cooling, high-voltage DC/AC interconnections, and embedded controls.
What You'll Do
- Design power supplies, sensor circuits, communications, and supporting logic
- Develop sensor solutions for liquid cooling, chillers, and heat exchangers
- Design, verify, and debug mixed-signal hardware
- Support system architecture, cost reduction, and root-cause investigations
- Lead thermal and safety compliance activities for BESS platforms
- Define requirements, test plans, and proof-of-concept designs
- Work closely with hardware, firmware, thermal, mechanical, and systems teams
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership
What You Bring
- BSEE + 8+ years or MSEE + 6+ years relevant experience
- Strong experience integrating sensors into commercial/industrial products
- Expertise in schematics, multilayer PCB design, EMI mitigation, and circuit analysis
- Experience with high-voltage power electronics or inverter systems
- Familiarity with UL/IEC inverter and BESS standards
- Experience with LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, or similar tools
- Experience with DFMEA, tolerance/worst-case analysis, and field failure investigation
- Hands-on hardware debugging and troubleshooting skills
- Python and embedded software experience is a plus
- Proven ability to lead projects and mentor engineers
